The Gospel – Repent and Believe (Mark 1:15)

What is the Gospel? How to explain it briefly and in a Biblical way? Here an interesting way used by Good Tree

I. God

The Character of God:

“The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.” (Exodus 34:6-7)

Holiness of God:

Your eyes are too pure to approve evil,And You can not look on wickedness with favor. (Habakkuk1:13)

But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. (Isaiah 59:2)

Justice of God:

For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face. (Psalm 11:7)

But the Lord of hosts will be exalted in judgment, And the holy God will show Himself  holy in righteousness. (Isaiah 5:16)

God is a righteous judge, And a God who has indignation every day. If a man does not
repent, He will sharpen His sword; He has bent His bow and made it ready. (Psalm 7:11-12)

God is revealed through Creation:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  (Romans 1:18-21)

So God is a God of compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness but by no means will leave the guilty unpunished. God is holy and cannot look at sin. Our sin separates us from a holy God. God is good all the time and cannot be unjust. God is a righteous judge and will repay every sin that is committed. God has been revealed to all men through creation and everyone is without excuse. This brings us to our next point.

II. Man

Man is Dead in Trespasses and Sins:

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. (Ephesians 2:1-3)

No One is Good Not One:

It is written, “There is none righteous, not even one: There is none who understands,There is none who seeks for God; (Romans 3:9-10)

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like
the wind, take us away. (Isaiah 64:6)

Man Cannot Trust Their Own Hearts:

The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. (Matthew 15:18-19)

No One is Justified By The Law:

For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to perform them. Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident (Galatians 3:10-11a)

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. (James 2:10)

Would You Consider Yourself Good Enough to go to Heaven?

One Day you will have to answer to a holy, just, and perfect God. A God that will not leave one sin unpunished. How will you do that day? Here are just a few questions you could ask yourself. Is God first in your life? Have you always loved God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength? Have you ever lied, stolen, or dishonored your parents? Have you looked with lust for someone and therefore committed adultery in your heart?

How did you do? Gods Standard is perfection. The Bible says No One is Good not one. We are all by nature Children of wrath. Our best deeds are filthy rags before God. Our heart is sick who can trust it. The heart is what defiles a person. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Do you see the need you have for someone to save you? You have the problem of all your sin you have committed against God and you will stand before that same God whom you sinned against to be judged.

III. Jesus

God Acted in Love:

God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Sonto be the propitiation for our sins.  (1 John 4:8-10)

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. (Romans 3:25-26)

Died, Buried, and Raised!

Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 1:15-3-4)

He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification. (Romans 4:25)

Whoever Believes

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through
Him. He who believes in Him is not judgedhe who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Good News!

The Good news is Jesus took the punishment on the cross that all believers deserve. He bore our sin and the wrath of God in our place. He is the only answer for sin to a holy and just God. A perfect sacrifice had to be given and that was our Beautiful Precious Savior Jesus Christ! Jesus took away the believers enmity with God. The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Jesus said, „I am the way and the  truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.“  (John 4:6Jesus is the only way to  heaven. God requires a perfect blood  sacrifice to cover our sins and he provided one for us with Jesus.  If you do not choose to take God’s free gift, you will go to hell when  you die because you have died in your sins. Are you asking, „How do I receive this free gift of  forgiveness and God’s grace?“

IV. Response

Man’s response to the gospel is repentance and faith.

Repentance is turning away from a lifestyle about us to a lifestyle about God. Repentance begins with a recognition and confession that what God says about us is true. We have sinned against a Holy God and no one is good. For all have sinned and sin separates us from God. Read Psalm 51 to read about how David repented.

Wretched Man I Am!

A genuine recognition of our sinfulness and guilt will also lead to genuine sorrow, shame and even hatred for what we have done. Paul says, “ Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from this body of death.“ (Romans 7:24) If a person is truly sorry they will stop doing the very things they are sorry for doing. No Christian is perfect but will grow in holiness
through the power of the Holy Spirit working in and threw them.

Bearing Fruit

True repentance produces good works. We are not saved by works but by faith. True faith produces good works though. Faith without works is dead! We are saved unto good works. If a person really believes something they will act out the beliefs. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (Matthew 3:10)

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8) God gives a person the gift of faith through hearing the Gospel inpowered by the Holy Spirit. A person puts that faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ Alone! Faith is the evidence or free gift of God so we can believe on Christ Jesus.
